Creating A Healthy System

Encouraged by the inspiring work of the Wendell Berry, Joel Salatin, John Kempf, and many others, we are focusing on growing practices to improve the health of the soil, the health of the biology in the soil, the health of the plants, and the consequent health benefits to the people who consume them.

What does “pasture-raised” mean?

Our pigs live on pasture from birth to finishing. They are free to do what they were created to do: root, graze, wallow, and play. Compared to conventionally-raised pigs who spend their entire lives confined to crowded barns, these pigs are happier, less stressed, and much healthier. They never receive or need antibiotics, growth hormones, or vaccines.

A pig’s diet is crucial to the outcome of the meat. Pastures are set up to provide shelter in the woods and a continuous supply of clean water while being rotated so that pigs have regular access to fresh greens. Like us, pigs are omnivores and cannot survive on salad alone; therefore, in addition to available forage and buckets full of produce, pigs are supplemented with a custom-blended, non-GMO feed.

What does “grass-finished” mean?

Our cattle live on pasture from birth to finishing. They are rotationally grazed throughout the growing season for a continuous supply of fresh, USDA-Certified Organic forage. This system mimics the natural grazing patterns of wild herbivores, with the exception of high-quality hay supplemented in the winter.

Compared to conventionally-finished cattle who spend their last months confined to crowded feedlots eating a grain-based diet, these cattle are happier, less stressed, and much healthier. Our steers never receive or need antibiotics, and, of course, we would never use growth hormones.
